Trial lawyer. Former Deputy District Attorney. Torrance, California.
David Gammill is the founder of Gammill Law Accident & Injury Lawyers in Torrance, California, where he represents injured people and grieving families in personal injury and wrongful death cases across the South Bay and the rest of California. He is a former Deputy District Attorney. Across 17 years in courtrooms, first as a prosecutor and then as a trial lawyer for injured people, he has tried over 100 cases to verdict. Every case is different, and past results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
David grew up in Michigan and carries the Midwest with him: plain talk, hard work, and a low tolerance for people who do not keep their word. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Michigan State University in 2002 and his law degree at the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2008. He went to law school for a simple reason. He wanted to try cases, and he wanted to help people who needed someone in their corner.
David began his career as a prosecutor, first with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and then, from 2009 to 2015, with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Over seven years as a Deputy District Attorney he tried serious felony cases to verdict, standing in front of juries week after week. That time taught him what evidence persuades twelve people and what does not. He now puts that experience to work for injured clients against insurance companies, corporations, and government agencies.
From 2015 to 2018, David was a lead trial attorney at Geragos & Geragos in Los Angeles, handling civil rights and injury cases. Among them was a federal civil rights case in Utah for a couple whose home was entered and searched by a police narcotics unit that was later disbanded amid a misconduct scandal. Both were arrested. The wife spent five days in jail and was never charged; the husband’s drug charges were dismissed. At trial, David’s cross-examination of the key officer defendants revealed that the drugs had been planted. The jury returned a verdict for the couple, finding that two officers had violated their Fourth Amendment rights; the city later settled the case for $500,000. The result belongs to that case and its facts, and every case is different.
David founded Gammill Law Accident & Injury Lawyers in 2018. He has lived in the South Bay since 2009, which is where he met his wife, and he built the firm to serve the communities he lives in: Torrance, the beach cities, the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Gardena, Carson, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Lomita, and the rest of Los Angeles County, along with clients across California.
The firm’s focus is personal injury and wrongful death. Other lawyers refer cases to David when those cases are headed for trial, and he is regularly brought in as trial counsel on matters another firm has been handling. Clients who hire Gammill Law work directly with David rather than a rotating cast of case handlers.
Gammill Law has recovered more than $100 million for California clients across verdicts and settlements. Separately, David’s trial results include a $21.1 million jury verdict in a wrongful death case against Caltrans over a crash cushion that had not been reset, a $16 million jury verdict for a survivor of school sexual abuse against a school district, and a $12 million jury verdict in a whistleblower retaliation case. Each of those figures comes from a specific case with its own facts, and no result is a promise about any other case. The full list is on the firm’s case results page.
TopVerdict.com listed the $21.1 million verdict among its Top 10 Verdicts in Los Angeles in 2021, and the $16 million verdict among its Top 20 Personal Injury Verdicts in Los Angeles in 2025.
David was part of the team of attorneys that recovered $852 million for all of the plaintiffs in the USC sexual abuse litigation, reported at the time as the largest sexual abuse settlement ever paid by a university. Gammill Law also represented the family of one of the passengers killed in the 2018 Lion Air Flight 610 crash in the litigation against Boeing; that case resolved in a confidential settlement. In both matters, the outcome reflects the work of many lawyers and the facts of those cases, not a prediction about yours.

David’s civil rights work has been covered by the Los Angeles Times (an Echo Park resident’s excessive force lawsuit against the LAPD), NBC Los Angeles (a teenager’s claims against Pomona police), and the Sacramento Bee (a federal lawsuit for a man jailed for five days on a mistaken-identity warrant). The San Francisco Standard covered a wrongful death lawsuit he filed over a fatal fire at a San Francisco public housing complex.
David runs the firm on three rules he learned growing up in the Midwest. He puts them in his own words:
“Treat every client like family. Prepare every case for trial. Never back down from a fight.”
In practice that means you talk to your lawyer, not a call center; the firm builds every case as if a jury will decide it, so the other side prices the case that way; and nobody at Gammill Law is looking for the quick, small settlement that ends the file. There are no upfront fees. The firm is paid a percentage of the recovery, and only if it recovers, under a written contingency fee agreement that follows California law.
David lives in the South Bay with his wife and their daughter.
